This is typical in any business supply chain. Note, "what the farmer gets" from what I understand is after all his costs, distrubtor costs, and distribution markup, aka "his profit". This isn't atypical for business (except if you consider his margins are better!). You might be surprised what the manufacturer gets for a tube of toothpaste. *shrugs*.
