Seriously, stopp with this "don't you have to use the terminal" stuff - you can download .debs and double click them, you can use the Synaptics package manager or you can use the Add/Remove Programs application (with a simplified interface and pretty icons to make things easier for first time users). You do not have to use the terminal for any remotely every-day task on Ubuntu. It's there because it's more efficient in many circumstances if you take the time to learn it, and if a problem does occur it makes it easier to solve it (whereas on Windows you have to play with the registry or just wipe and start fresh).
