I dont think it's fair to use the term "past 8 years". You can't possibly pin all of this on the Bush administration... it's common knowledge that the economy peaked in 1998, then started a slow decline before Clinton left office. Then, of course there was 9/11 (don't start any conspiracy theory crap. no matter who did it, it happened, and it had an effect).
Looks like we'll have to come up with better technologies like compressed air cars. Then you don't have to worry about charge times as much and there's no having to recycle batteries.

While a lot of people are complaining about affordability, you'd have to consider the concept: new technology. Similar to computers and electronics, the Mini will be the first of its kind, especially to be mass produced. Until there is a surge in sales of BMW's other vehicles, there's no reason to expect a price drop. In other words, if you have rich friend's, tell them to buy the new Mini next Summer.
