Toon Link is the REAL Link, if you've ever played games on systems other than the Gamecube and N64. He's the best-animated, most interesting design choice the series has ever had from Zelda to Link to the Past, and a realistic-looking Link, sadly to say, is kind of laughable.

Granted, there has been quite a few recent articles detailing the fall of Sonic and friends, so maybe his eye-wrenching makeover is just considered a given nowadays and not even worth a mention.
