Back the cars had vacuum driven wipers, though. That stuff was all designed by mechanical engineers. None of them apparently ever considered using a little DC motor to drive the wipers. Nah, far more practical to take a vacuum tap off the manifold. Maybe add a vacuum booster is there's a problem with consistent speed under acceleration. An EE woulda walked in there and started laughing his ass off.
