California has no real reliable or quick public transportation, so it is very common that every last person that lives here gets a car if they can afford one. So you are then faced with the problem of a freeway full of cars that can seat 5 or more people, but they are all being used by a single person. A lot of problems are compounded due to this, but the ridiculous gas prices are causing a lot of people to resort to other means of transportation, especially biking and or riding motorcycles or mopeds.
