The point of second generation is not to chop down forests, but to use bio-waste in biofuel production, such as saw dust from saw mills etc.. that is usually either burnt or left to rot. That means you can use maize stover, switchgrass and waste wood for fuel production.. all of which are normally thrown away. Think about all the straw etc.. from food production that goes to waste! This is great news. My only problem is that his yield percentages are lower compared to some other scientists and companies that I know who have already patented their process - so I wouldn't call it a complete break through.
