Being a politician isn't about only casting votes. Obama worked to get immunity stripped out. FISA was going to pass anyway, a vote from Obama wouldn't change that, he had to vote "yes" to not be seen as soft on terrorism, or uncooperative with bipartisanship. The vote meant nothing on whether or not the bill would be passed, just on his political future. Now that he has done the wise thing and extended his political future, he can continue to fight as he had for the principles he believes in.
