That looks ***** stupid.

You should have stopped with "He stands to make a lot of money from this plan" education loan lenders
Truthfully, even if everyone was aware of this, most American's wouldn't see the harm in their credit card transactions being sent to the IRS. Most would probably support the idea if it was somehow linked to stopping terrorists.
Velvet Underground ftw
I don't see why everyone is speculating about the next villain. Why does it have to be a traditional "super villain." I think TDK left a huge opening that many are over looking. I think the next Batman should deal w/ the Asian organization/mob that was behind the scenes throughout the movie. I don't know if they would be considered "Yakuza" or what, but I think it would be interesting to see Batman take on a crime organization that is controlling all of the other crime organizations, all the while having to deal with being labeled as a criminal himself. This would keep the story more "real," and allow for Nolan to tie up loose strings by linking everything back to "The League of Shadows," and possibly Ra's Al Ghul.
That's why diggers are not Hollywood's target demographic. We may go back to see the movie 2 or 3 times, but meanwhile, the rest of the world is wondering why Batman is battling Bowser in Liberty City in an attempt to foil the assassination attempt on President Paul.
The Obamanation of Desolation is out to get even you. Don't be fooled fools.
